Valentine's Day

A very old tradition which was revived in Germany after World War II by the Americans. Girls and women receive roses and other presents from their loved ones.
At our school Gymnasium Essen Nord-Ost older students sell red roses and the one who buys the rose can anonimously have the rose delivered to his/her favourite student.

Carnival in our area

The carnival session starts on a Thursday in February when the women invade the Mayor's houses and steal the key and take over the rule of the house. They also cut the ties of the men. On Monday and Tuesday there are big parades with theme vehicles which make fun of politicians or political issues like our chancellor Angela Merkel in the first photo. The participants on the vehicles throw candy into the crowd.

My name is Shari Gefrom. I'm 15 years old and live with my brother and my mother in a house near Gelsenkirchen.

I am in the 10th grade.

My brother Darius is 18 years old and is in the 12th grade of Gymnasium Essen Nord ost.

He loves playing guitar to metal music.

My mum Samantha is 43 years old and my dad, who lives in a flat near us, is 48 years old.

In my freetime I love playing football, meet my friends or hear music.

I am playing in the footballclub: Gelsenkirchen Hessler 06 as forward like my best friend Anna too.

I love hearing hip hop and rap music.

My favourite singers are the 257ers, a rap group from Essen, Peter Fox and Culcha Candela.

I am also a big fan of Fc Schalke 04 and I've visited many games of them and the Veltins Arena is awesome :D My favourite Player and also my atheltic role model is Kevin Kuranyi.

And if I meet my best friend we go shopping, in cinema or just hanging around anywhere.

It's mostly really funny because we laugh about everything she's one of the most impotant persons in my life. And she's my companion if we go "auf Schalke" that means to the Veltins Arena.

I'm Justyna Duda, 17 years old and I am in the 10th grade of Gymnasium Essen Nord-Ost. I live with my parents and my siblings in a small flat next to school.

My sister Marlena is 16 years old and I share my bedroom with her. She's sometimes too vigorous for me but that's ok :D My brother is 12 and he's really cute. My mum is 38 and my father 40. They were born in Poland, like me and my siblings, that's why they don't speak German well.

I'm speaking German, English, Polish and French. I'm learning French since 4 years and English since 6 years. I don't like French. I'am not sure why maybe it's too difficult or I am just lazy to learn it:P

In my spare time I love to go shopping♥, meet friends and to go swim. Of course I love lots of other things which makes fun :D

I also spend a lot of my spare time on listening to music.

My friends are a very important part to me because they help me and we spend a lots of time together. I enjoy every time I spend with my friends. We always have fun:)

My rat is as well relevant to me. Her name is Pichia and she's really cute and lovely and fat :D. She'd a friend called Crispy but Crispy passed away 3 weeks ago. People often are afraid of rats but I can calm you Pichia is friendly:D

¡Hola a todo el mundo!

My Name is Robin and I am 17 year old. I live in Essen with my parents, my sister, who is 14, and my grandmother in a townhouse.
I am now in the 11th grade of the Gymnasium Essen Nord-Ost and I have only two minutes to school by foot. :D

In my leisure I play football at the FC Stoppenberg. I am a great football fan and of course I am a fan of Fútbol Club Barcelona. :)

I am in the top row, the third from left.

Except for football, I do fitness in my free-time, love to play video-games, listen to music (all with with Robin K., best friend :D) and meet friends.

I was already three times in Spain, one time in Barcelona. My football club and me got a tournament there and this easter we'll participate in another tournament there.

So, after the exchange last year, I am really loooking forward to meet you and to do this exchange and to see your beautiful town. And I think you are going to have a lot of fun here in Essen, which is as same beautiful as your town. ;D
